Dejan Jovanovic is an artist, metalsmith, and jewelry designer who transforms ideas into wearable art with gold, platinum, and silver. As a practitioner of both traditional metalsmithing and design, he incorporates the best elements of both to translate visions into artist-designed jewelry that feels personal rather than off the rack. Dejan grew up in his father's sculpting studio in Serbia. Sculpture, tools, and raw materials surrounded him from the start, and they sparked his interest in metalwork and applied art. He graduated from the Belgrade University School of Applied Arts before earning his MFA in metal design at East Carolina University. Both shape how he designs today: a sculptor's feel for form and a metalsmith's patience with the work itself.
Dejan founded Dejan Studio Jewelry in 2002 in the Washington, DC area. Today, he designs and handcrafts his pieces inside the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Over the past two decades, he has collaborated with the White House and Tiffany & Co., and his designs have been featured in Vogue, Martha Stewart Weddings, and Washingtonian magazine. That history shows how long he has refined his craft.
